Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town

Private transfer from the Cape Town International Airport to the The Portswood Hotel.

Located on the V&A Waterfront, this chic hotel offers free Wi-Fi and an outdoor swimming pool with terrace.

Day 2: Full Day at Winelands

We head north to Paarl
At our first stop we experience a cellar tour followed by a cheese and wine tasting
We continue to Franschhoek with a photo stop at the Groot Drakenstein Prison where Nelson Mandela was released in Feb 1990
A short tour of the little town and a second wine tasting in Franschhoek
Lunch stop (optional – own account)
Hells Hoogte Mountain Pass to Stellenbosch
Time permitting, we will include a third wine tasting before returning to your hotel


Day 3: Rovos Rail (Cape Town – Pretoria)

Transfer from the Portswood Hotel to the Rovos Rail Station
Dinner and overnght on the train.


Day 4: Rovos Rail

14h30 Arrival at Kimberley Station – 16h00
Tour of Kimberley´s Big Hole and Diamond Mine Museum. Ten minutes after departing Kimberley a shallow lake appears on the left-hand side of the train where, on most occasions, there are spectacular flocks of Lesser Flamingos apparoximately 23 000). Travel from the Karoo to the Highveld. Dinner and overnight on board.

Day 5: Arrival in Pretoria

Private transfer from the Pretoria Station to the Castello di Monte
This is a five star Guest House, situated in Waterkloof Ridge, Pretoria. Day 6: Full day private tour of Johannesburg & Soweto

South Africa’s largest city remains its financial and commercial heart. It’s in this fast-paced metropolis that the country’s radical political and social transformation is most evident – this is the ‘Rainbow Nation’ at work. It’s a heady experience, with contrasts of every kind round every single corner. The tour sets off for Constitution Hill, home of South Africa’s architectural marvel, the Constitutional Court and site of Johannesburg’s Old Fort Prison (closed Sundays). We explore the inner city of Johannesburg and the influence the discovery of gold brought to this city and indeed South Africa. Proceed for a visit to the Top of Africa, at the 223m-high Carlton Centre, Africa’s tallest building with magnificent views particularly on a clear day – you can see as far as the capital city of Pretoria and you’ll be amazed at the number of trees you’ll see, easily one of the largest urban forests in the world!. Visit and explore the Maboneng Precinct, a wonderful example of urban regeneration of the eastside of the Johannesburg CBD which is now home to several independent retail, restaurant, art and entertainment venues – fresh and unique lifestyle offerings of this new exciting development.

SOWETO, acronym for South Western Township. It is home to over 2 million people, visit the Hector Pieterson Museum, pass Mandela House, and have time to visit this fascinating little museum (own account). The journey continues to Regina Mundi Church to find out it’s secrets Drive past the largest stadium in Africa, Soccer City, host of the 2010 FIFA World Cup opening and final matches. This magnificent stadium, also known as ‘The Calabash’ has a seating capacity of almost 95,000.

 

Day 7: Rovos Rail (Pretoria to Durban)

Private transfer from Castello di Monte to the Rovos Rail Station Depart Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. Lunch is served as the Drakenberg Mountains come into view. In the afternoon the train climbs to Majuba Hill (2146m/7040ft). Dinner is served on route to Elandslaagte for overnight stop.


Day 8:

06h00 Wake-up call. Breakfast served before embarking on a game drive in the Nambiti Private Game Reserve. Return to the train for brunch at 100h00 and head for Estcourt. 14h00 Disembark for A 40-minute drive to Spionkop Lodge where a choice of two excursions is availalble: an escorte tour of the battlefields or a game drive in the spionkop Game Reserve. Return to train for dinner.


Day 9:

Breakfast is served as the train descends the escarpment en route tio Lions River Station.10h00
Visit the famous Ardmore Ceramics Gallery including an equestrian display. 12h00 Depart for Durban. The train raverses the spectacular Valley of a Thousen Hills 16h00 Arrive at journey´s end in Durban Transfer from Rovos Station to Zimbali Resort
